ABOUT OTS
Foundation of Officers' Training School
The Officers' Training School (OTS) represents a pivotal chapter in the institutional development of the Bangladesh Air Force, embodying the nation's commitment to professional military education and training excellence. On the date of July 24, 1980, this institution was established at BAF Base Chittagong, now known as Zahurul Haque, marking the beginning of a transformative era in military professional development.
Early Years: Building the Foundation (1980-1985)
The Visionary Beginning .The establishment of OTS emerged from a strategic vision to create a centralized institution capable of delivering standardized, high-quality professional training to Bangladesh Air Force ground branch officers. In its inaugural phase, OTS operated with a carefully defined scope of responsibility, focusing exclusively on the basic professional training of technical branch officers. As the institution matured, OTS began a systematic expansion of its training portfolio. The institution's leadership, recognizing the diverse professional development needs across the Bangladesh Air Force, gradually incorporated basic courses for non-technical branch officers, encompassing eight specialized branches, each designed to meet the unique professional requirements of different military specializations.
Initially, two critical branches - Education and Air Traffic Control - remained outside the purview of OTS training programs. However, the institution's proven track record and growing reputation for excellence led to the inclusion of these specialized areas. By integrating these branches into its comprehensive training framework, OTS demonstrated its evolving capacity to serve the entire spectrum of Bangladesh Air Force ground operations.
Achieving Full Institution Status .
The year 1985 marked a watershed moment in OTS history, as the institution achieved recognition as a full-fledged training establishment. This milestone signified the maturation of OTS into a comprehensive professional development center capable of meeting the diverse training needs of the Bangladesh Air Force ground branches.
The Modern Era: Relocation and Expansion (1990-Present).
Strategic Relocation to Jashore .
In 1990, OTS underwent a significant transformation with its relocation to BAF Base Birshrestho Matiur Rahman in Jashore. The new location in the southwest corner of Bangladesh offered several advantages, including excellent connectivity to the capital city through both air and road networks.
Evolution of Training Programs .
Today, OTS operates with remarkable sophistication and capability, managing a diverse portfolio of professional training programs designed to meet the evolving needs of contemporary military operations. The excellence of OTS training programs has gained recognition beyond Bangladesh's borders. The institution has successfully trained officers from the Bangladesh Army, Navy and friendly foreign countries.
